2008 Brought Hope that Black Veterans Have an Advocate
In all the years of the "State of the Black Union" there has been no black person to speak about the Black veteran. Sure, there is someone talking about folks in prison but I cannot understand for the life of me why Black veteran's trials and woes are constantly ignored by Tavis and others on this panel. At least the president is attempting to help us, but I have realized that the Black community will remain non-supportive until the Black veterans' issues are put on a national forum and what better way as the State of the Black Union's stage. You all appear to, easily, forget that we risked our lives in many wars, some come back the same but many of us do not. We have to struggle to get benefits and health and, more importantly, the love and support from our community. Could it be that the Black community plays a part of the number of homeless vets or many become dependent on drugs and alcohol and let's not forget those who withdraw from society. We, Black veterans, need the support for our community.
Tavis, don't know if you are
Tavis, don't know if you are aware, and I know I should have used another forum for this but I am too busy right now to pull up something else. I just wanted to know if you were aware that Fannie Lou Hamer's house burned to the ground? Sorry for such bad news.
Other than that, the best thing for last year for me , other than life in general was the birth of my second nephew!!! And of course seeing Obama win the presidency was amazing!
President Barack Obama! I'm
President Barack Obama! I'm so proud of him :) He is an exceptional Black Man!
2008 will certainly be a year
2008 will certainly be a year to remember for many reasons, but for me the most memorable will be the excitement I felt on November 4th as I sat in my family room with my family and friends watching Barack Obama become the first African American President of the United States. It was a very emotional moment for me because I could look at my two sons and tell them with conviction that when they grow up they can be anything they want to be including the president of the United States.
