Hate Crimes Bill

Sun, 07/22/2007 - 23:12 | Government
In an open letter to the U.S. Senate, supporters of the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007, claim misinformation is hindering justice. Opponents of the bill, such as the High Impact Leadership Coalition, claim the bill will erode basic freedoms of speech and the free exercise of religion. The House has passed the bill, which has moved to the Senate for consideration. Is this bill misguided compassion or necessary to keep people from becoming victims of bias-motivated violence?
