Speak Out!
In The Name of Love
Wed, 06/24/2009 - 22:35 | FamilyYet another politician, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, has admitted to cheating on a spouse. To make matters worse for this governor, he literally disappeared and left his staff and family to fend off press inquiries regarding his whereabouts—all in the name of love.
Why are some people in power positions willing to risk everything by committing infidelity?

ACCOUNTABLE: Making America As Good As Its Promise

Love
Love is giving someone the chance to destroy you, and trusting them not to.
Cheat!
I would love to think that it's a small percentage of men on earth that does not cheat but my hopes are fading quickly! I was in a conversation one afternoon with friends and this cheating conversation begins something like this. "All men cheat" as one sister stated, but me being optimistic through my opt statement in and said "Now that is a broad statement you are making." All men don't cheat and the response was what planet are you living on? Men, whether in the name of love or not will cheat even if they have a good woman at home, powerful position, and all the blessings in the world, the tool downstairs has a path of its own. This has come to be an acceptance behavior from men. There should be a law against cheaters be it male or female! If you are married and you cheat, you should be prosecuted under this law. Sentence should be as follows: First time offense, fine up to 5,000 dollars. Second offense 10,000 and the Third time - Jail time up to 10 years in prison. Marriage should be respected and honored between man and woman.
Mark Sanford
Mark Sanford should definitely resign. First of all, as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the Clinton/Lewinsky affair, he was a vocal critic, even suggesting that Clinton step down, calling his actions "reprehensible."
This "Ray Bolger" look-alike rejected federal stimulus funds for a state that is plagued by poverty yet he flew to Argentina to meet his mistress on taxpayer funds. As a "holier-than-thou" Republican, Mr. Sanford's infidelity just highlights the hypocrisy of poiticians, particularly conservatives. They scream and holler against abortion and gay marriage but don't see a problem with adultery. I guess their bible is different from everyone else's.
People in power positions commit acts of infidelity because they don't consider getting "busted." They think that all they have to do when they do get busted is come out and say "I'm sorry." Well, for me at least, there should be greater accountability and in this case Mr. Scarecrow should lose his job.
Gov. Mark Sanford
The public issue is not the affair but his apparent inablity to act as governor in a responsible way.
Overwhelming pressures
Betrayal of loved ones is never acceptable. The pressure of life in a spotlight, surrounding yourself with "yes" people and not willing to stick to your inner guide to spiritual center, leads many good people to make ill advised and stupid decisions. There is not one human on the face of the earth who has not made a mistake. His family and children will bear the brunt of the criticsm. Gov. Sanford made an all too human mistake, instant gratification, without regard for the long term damage. He should acknowledge his mistake, repair, if possible, the rift with his loved ones. Find his center and his course in life, and get back to his life course. My prayers go out to his family, State and for his recovery from this. It is never our successes in life that teach us, it is our fraility and failures.
