Jobs or Housing?

Mon, 12/15/2008 - 11:11 | Economy
A Washington Post article addresses the fight in Mississippi over whether post-Katrina funds should be allocated to more affordable housing or to boost employment and economic development.
The Gulfport port project has become a symbol for both sides. The port lost about 700,000 square feet of storage facilities and other infrastructure in the storm, and regional leaders have long hoped for a port expansion that would position the area to benefit from the long-term growth of Gulf Coast shipping. But opponents say low-income families are losing out to business interests, and they contend that the port's storm losses were partially covered by insurance and other federal aid and that its growth should be funded by bonds and other sources.
Which is more important to post-Katrina revitalization in the Gulf: jobs or housing?

Now if I say jobs, then the

Now if I say jobs, then the question would still remain, where would one live? If I say oh, I don’t know, housing, then again, how would one pay for housing? This question is definitely not fair or a balanced question if one has to choose, but the right answer would be- both- in the justice for all book. I don’t quite understand how Congress and the soon to be forgotten president could have such a huge bailout for these underhanded large corporations but yet we still have to ask questions like these for everyday people.

The president had a shoe thrown at his head, God forbid if the angry man threw a heavier object. These are the kinds of things that make such anger and hostility grow towards the government. Why do we even have a government? What’s the purpose? Do we have a government that only draws from the pocketbook/wallet of the hardworking average American’s, but in return we get nothing but a glass of filthy water in a dirty glass? We will never get things off the ground and working for the average everyday people with so many greedy jokers from Gotham city running America. I’m trusting that in the years to come, with President Obama, we can a least get the ball rolling in the right direction. I know (I assume we all know)) that he will not be the savior of the world, we are not asking him to be. But what we do need is a man of understanding and I believe we have voted for the right man.

This is going to be a nasty cleanup job for President Obama. But I believe he knows just how hard this job is going to be. It’s going to be like trying to get red kool-aid out of beige carpet, but again I feel we have the right man. God Bless America! We need it!
