Covenant with Black America

The “Covenant with Black America” was developed under the guidance of Tavis Smiley, with valuable input by industry experts and African-American leaders such as David Satcher, Angela Glover Blackwell, Marc Morial, Julian Bond, Marian Wright Edelman and other respected community and world leaders.

Covenant with Black America book focuses on the top 10 issues of concern to African Americans and provides a blueprint on what individuals, public policymakers and corporate citizens can do to move the African American community forward, socially and economically to make America better.

Covenant In Action was developed through a partnership between The Jamestown Project and PolicyLink to enable and inspire people to become agents of change by using the book’s toolkit. The kit contains not only traditional action strategies, but also innovative approaches to organizing and community building that will result in stronger, more bonded communities reflective of Black America’s history and past experiences.

Accountable: Making America As Good As its Promise, the third and final book in this trilogy, examines hard-hitting truths about the issues our country faces, and addresses how our political leaders, corporations and finally, American citizens themselves can enforce accountability and effect change.
