Developing Financial Empowerment in Underserved Communities

With our Road to Wealth initiatives, we seek to create parity for those who want to become empowered. Financial literacy is a prerequisite to building wealth. Our initiatives support African American and Latino families who suffer disproportionately from economic disparity, which is frequently exacerbated by a lack of financial skills, making economic progress even more challenging.

Co-founded by Dr. Yanique Redwood with her 13-year old daughter, this site's mission is to ensure that every African American girl sees herself in popular media in a way that builds and supports a strong, healthy self-esteem.

HISTORY MAKERS

Rev. Addie Wyatt
First female local union president of United Packinghouse Food and Allied Workers; began working for Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America in 1941 and became organization's first female international VP; along with husband, helped found Operation Breadbasket; appointed by Eleanor Roosevelt to Labor Legislation Committee of Commission on the Status of Women; helped found Coalition of Labor Union Women and delivered keynote address at founding meeting to 3,200 participants; founding member, National Organization for Women.
