Road to Health

HealthThe Road to Health Expo was a two-day multi-city health and fitness expo, symposium, and seminars, in 2006 and 2007. It presented interactive health, wellness and fitness pavilions on cooking and nutrition, fitness, beauty and wellness combined with information packed seminars, medical screenings and referrals, live symposium discussion, celebrity guests, walk-a-thon, indoor and outdoor exercise activities, contests, and literature.

Highlights included:

  • Expo floor filled with cutting edge health services and products
  • Free health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar/glucose, bone density, cholesterol, lung function, kidney disease STD, dental & eye exams
  • Sessions on a wide range of health issues from diabetes, asthma, and heart disease to weight loss and nutrition
  • Public Health Symposium on Childhood Obesity
  • Cooking, Dance, Exercise, Senior, Women, and Beauty & Wellness Pavilions
  • Youth Health Day

  • PSA HBCU Apparel

    Plair Sports and Apparel recently announced the launch of a new officially-licensed collegiate apparel line to HBCU students, graduates, fans, and supporters, by pledging to donate 10% of the purchase price of all HBCU logo'd items, on top of the royalty payments, when purchased from its site. Founder Quentin Plair is a 1986 graduate of Florida A&M and is using this launch to "give back" to HBCUs.

  • Renee Powell

    One of only three African American women to ever play on Ladies Professional Golf Association's (LPGA) Tour; began competing as a golfer at age 12; made pro debut on LPGA Tour in 1967, with first tournament being U.S. Women's Open conducted by U.S. Golf Association; after she finished competing on the Tour, taught golf in Africa and Europe; later returned home to Canton, OH and served as head professional golfer at Clearview Golf Course—the first such facility designed, constructed, owned, and operated by an African American (her dad) and on National Register of Historic Places.
